Chief Executive Officer

John is the CEO and founder of Toorak Capital Partners.  Prior to Toorak, John was the founder and President of B2R Finance, the leading mortgage origination company focused on the single family rental and residential bridge loan markets.  B2R Finance (now Finance of America Commercial) is a Blackstone portfolio company.


Before founding B2R, John led Deutsche Bank's single family rental lending practice where he originated more than $5.0 billion in single-family rental loans made to large institutional acquirers of homes and structured the first ever securitization of single family rental properties.  Prior to the formation of the SFR platform, John originated large balance commercial real estate loans in the CMBS group at Deutsche Bank and worked in the financial institutions investment banking groups at Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse First Boston.


In total, John has completed more than $50 billion in transactions and has structured financings which won CMBS or structured finance “Deal of the Year” awards four times.  John graduated from Princeton University magna cum laude with an A.B. degree in economics.


Chief Financial Officer

Eli is the Chief Financial Officer of Toorak Capital Partners.  Prior to joining the Toorak executive team, Eli worked for B2R Finance, the leading mortgage origination company focused on the single family rental and residential bridge loan markets. As B2R’s Treasurer, Eli oversaw the Company’s cash and liquidity management activities covering loan origination, business operations and the Company’s warehouse and mezzanine financing activities in support of  B2R’s multiple functional and product areas, including the Dwell Bridge Lending Platform.  


Prior to joining B2R, Eli served as the Corporate Controller of Northstar Realty Finance Corp, a diversified commercial REIT, where he was responsible for managing daily liquidity for the Company’s various assets and entities as well as supporting the Company’s expanding reporting and compliance requirements.  Before joining Northstar, Eli was a senior manager in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Banking & Capital Markets Assurance practice, where he served for 14 years, including a 2-year rotation in the Firm’s national office, where he supported a variety of residential, commercial, consumer and specialty lending clients.  Eli graduated with honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a B.A in Business Economics.


Director of Credit

David heads up the Small Balance Commercial platform at Toorak Capital Partners. Prior to joining Toorak, David was a Principal at Prudential Mortgage Capital Company where he led the Capital Markets pricing team responsible for CMBS loan pricing and securitization analytics.  Prior to joining Prudential, David spent six years as Co-head of CMBS/CRE CDO trading at both Sterne, Agee, Inc. and StormHarbour Securities in New York.  Previously, David was a Senior Director in the Capital Markets group at Hypo Real Estate Holding and from 1998 to 2006 David was the Pricing and Hedging Manger at GE Real Estate.  


David’s work has included securitizing over $30 billion in CMBS collateral, pricing in excess of 1,000 fixed and floating rate CRE loans, and trading over $7 billion in securities and third party debt sales. He has an MBA from Stern School of Business at New York University and graduated with High Honors in Economics from Brandeis University.


Director of UK

Tim heads up the UK business at Toorak Capital Partners. Prior to Toorak, Tim was CEO and founder of Cogent Investments, a multi-national distressed asset platform, deploying over $100 million across both UK and US residential markets; acquiring over 500 individual assets through NPL acquisitions, foreclosure and administration sales. Alongside this, he started  a US-based asset management business to oversee the various portfolio requirements, acquisitions, construction management, property management and eventual disposal of assets.


Alongside Cogent, Tim worked with UK bridge and mezzanine lender Calmez, focusing on low value, high volume loan origination, working to grow the overall loan book whilst concentrating on improving credit quality. Tim also worked for two of the top London surveying firms and a residential investment fund prior to founding Cogent Investments.



Business Development/Loan Acquisitions

Devang manages all aspects of originator onboarding, credit due diligence oversight, and day to day communication with all lenders. 


Prior to Toorak, Devang worked at B2R Finance within the capital markets team as a key member in executing the first multi borrower SFR securitization and subsequent securitizations.  In addition, Devang assisted in daily loan pricing of loan opportunities, daily PNL reporting to senior management, and the operational setup of warehouse finance lines. 


Devang worked within the Securitized Products group at Barclays helping to setup the warehouse lending platform for RMBS and CMBS.  In addition, Devang also worked within the Portfolio Accruals and Conduits team focusing on ABS and MBS. 



Asset Management & Reporting

Darren coordinates asset management and business development at Toorak Capital Partners. Prior to Toorak, Darren was an AVP in the Capital Markets group at B2R Finance. Darren was integral in completing the first multi-borrower SFR securitiziation as well as implementing the company's quality control department.  He then helped complete the Company's second securitization by working with rating agencies, external counsel, diligence and structuring agents. 

Before B2R, Darren was a senior at EY in their financial statement assurance practice in Stamford, CT and Charlotte, NC. He audited, public, private, domestic and international clients in multiple different industries including real estate, pharmaceuticals and major industry.


​Darren graduated with honors from the University of Delaware with a B.S. in Finance and minors in Economics and International Finance.  He then graduated with a M.S. in Accounting from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.


Chief Technology Officer

Sachin is the Chief Technology Officer at Toorak Capital responsible for driving operational efficiencies and transparency across Toorak’s best-in-class proprietary technology platform. Sachin brings over 20 years experience developing enterprise technologies, he has designed and created software solutions for Fortune 500 companies and a leading investment management firm. Prior to joining Toorak, Venugopal served as a Vice President of Engineering at AQR Capital where he focused on digital and marketing technologies, and Senior Director of Engineering at McGraw-Hill where he focused on e-commerce and enterprise services. Sachin holds a Bachelor’s degree of Engineering in industrial electronics from Marathwada University.


Principal Credit

Daniel Hall, CFA, is a principal in Toorak Capital Partner’s Capital Markets group where he is focused on consumer loan securitizations. Daniel most recently served as Senior Vice President at DBRS Morningstar Credit Ratings where he was responsible for credit analysis across traditional and non-traditional asset classes. He began his career at S&P Global as an Analyst on RMBS transactions team, and eventually served as Director and RMBS Team Leader, where he focused on new ratings issuance.


Daniel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Quantitative Finance and Economics from James Madison University.


Principal Capital Markets

Joe is a principal at Toorak Capital Partners in the Capital Markets group, where he focuses on business development & Operations for Non-QM loans. Joe brings over 30 years of experience in mortgage capital deal management and he has expertise in portfolio acquisitions, management, and securitizations, as well as lending operations and credit/risk management. Joe served as Senior Vice President and Head of Credit at Verus Mortgage Capital, a position he also held at Window Rock Capital Partners, LLC., and WinWater Home Mortgage. Throughout his career, Joe has held senior leadership roles at Arbor Residential Mortgage, LLC., Nomura Securities, Bank of America, Credit Based Asset Servicing Securitization, Countrywide Securities Corporation, and Bear Stearns.


Joe holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Western New England College.



Capital Markets

Aleksandra Simanovsky is a principal in the capital markets group focused on the securitization program and marketing efforts at Toorak Capital Partners. Aleksandra has over 15 years of experience in covering commercial real estate and residential real estate loan sectors. Before joining Toorak, Aleksandra spent four years as a Vice President in Deutsche Bank’s Commercial Real Estate group, where she led the new issuance of over $40 billion in commercial real estate backed securitization deals. Aleksandra began her career as a credit analyst at Moody’s Investors Service, where between 2003 and 2014 she worked in the Residential Mortgage Backed- , Asset Backed - and the Commercial Mortgage Backed-Securitization groups and underwrote real estate loans, modeled cashflows, and authored, presented and published credit opinions, research and methodologies, with her research cited in Bloomberg/Businessweek, CNBC, HousingWire and Washington Post.

Aleksandra and her husband live in New York City and invest personally in real estate, currently owning 10 rental units and one office property that they purchased, rehabilitated and leased in Staten Island, New York.

Aleksandra graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in finance from Pace University.



Capital Markets

Matt is the trader for Toorak Capital Partners focused on the long term rental program and the securitization programs.  Prior to Toorak,  Matt ran capital markets at Direct Access Capital and was responsible for managing and growing their residential credit product lines.


Before joining Direct Access, he was Chief Investment Officer for Patch of Land. As CIO he was responsible for all capital market activities, expanded their loan product lines and brought in new institutional relationships. 


Prior to Patch of Land, Matt pioneered three of the industry's first-ever multi-borrower single-family rental securitizations at Blackstone Group subsidiary, B2R Finance, (now known as Finance of America Commercial) from start up to a multibillion dollar lender in only a few years. He was responsible for pricing new risk, hedging and structuring of the securitizations. 


Matt worked for Bear Stearns and J.P. Morgan on their CMBS Capital Markets team. While there, Matt structured, marketed and executed financing solutions for the bank and commercial real estate clients including CMBS, CLO, NPL and Repo structures. Matt holds a BS in finance from Pennsylvania State University and an MBA with a concentration in finance from Fordham University.
